Julie, what motivated you to write The Pathway to Love? I am often asked this question. It is an important question. So I thought I’d share my thoughts with you today on this very topic.
This blog is a bit of self-promotion. While people have encouraged me to write it, I find it difficult to be self-congratulatory. But I guess it goes with the territory of being an author who wants to get her message out to the world. So here’s my news… I entered my first competition for The Pathway to Love: Create Intimacy and Transform Your Relationships through Self-Discovery. It was entered into the first annual Global Ebook Awards in a few categories. I sent off the entry form and pretty much went about my way. So how did it turn out you ask? Well, not too bad. The Pathway to Love was a Finalist in the Non-Fiction Book Cover Category as well as in the Non-Fiction Relationship/Sexuality Category. And, I’m happy to report that The Pathway to Love was announced as the WINNER in the Non-Fiction Relationship/Sexuality Category. Kind of cool. So what did I learn from the experience?
Last month I had the privilege of attending the Los Angeles Business Journal’s Women Making A Difference Award banquet. Each year the Business Journal honors women who have made a difference in their businesses, organizations, and communities. I was nominated along with 250 other women. It was a humbling experience and I must admit I felt somewhat undeserving of the nomination as I listened to the incredible stories and accomplishments of my fellow nominees and the finalists in each category. While I may have felt my accomplishments paled in comparison to the incredible women in attendance, I did feel honored to be a part of the club—a club of women who understand the value of making a difference and who commit their lives to contributing unconditional acts of kindness to others. Because when it comes down to it, this is what lies at the core of each woman’s story. People are moved to help others in many different ways.
Every now and then you reach a milestone or have a significant event occur in your life that you want to share with others. It is in these moments that you remember the people that matter and realize how much support and love you receive from them. Saturday was such day for me. It was the official launch of my book The Pathway to Love. I had a celebratory luncheon. And I was surrounded by love—the love of my family, friends, colleagues, fans, and newly acquainted guests. It was a great day. It reminds me how fortunate I am—to have a brother who opened his home and hosted the lovely event, to have friends and family who believe in me, to have colleagues who respect and support me, and to have people who appreciate my message and commitment to making a difference to others.
